HIROYA will be entering the RIZIN ring under K-1 rules. He claims to show a simple performance “I’ll make the crowd go crazy with just punches and kicks”.

—When did you receive this offer

I got the offer in November through K-1. When they first announced the event in October, I thought it was going to be a MMA only event, but fighting that ring on NYE is a great honor and status for any fighter. I’ve fought there before, and I have always wanted to get back. I used to watch fights on NYE every year as a kid, so this stage is definitely a dream stage for me.

—Your opponent has been confirmed as Akiyo “Wicky” Nishiura
Fighting a MMA fighter is definitely the NYE way. This is a fight that won’t happen in the K-1 ring. I think it will be an action packed fight that fits this festive event. Wicky has fought K-1 rules in the past, and he did great against a former champion, he is unorthodox as well so I need to pay attention.

—You told the press that you wanted to show the greatness of K-1
K-1 rules are simple, you stand and trade. It is easy to understand and enjoy for the people who don’t know much about the sport. I want to show the appeal of this simple punching and kicking exchange.

—A message to the K-1 fans who are excited about your fight in RIZIN FF
I am very grateful to be able to fight in the RIZIN FF ring. Some people may think I don’t belong here. But I would like to use this opportunity to show the appeal and greatness of K-1. I’ll try not to be distracted by his unorthodox style, and just fight at my pace and be aggressive. Please look forward for my fight.
