“I don’t want to fight a sports fight”. An interview with Akio “Wicky” Nishiura.

—How do you feel right now?
I feel great!
—Is this fight going to be fought under K1 rules?
I think it’s MMA rules. But I’m just going to punch.
—Have you been studying your opponent?
No not at all. I never study my opponent before a match, I just go out there and fight on instinct. If I watch fighters before I fight, everything becomes unnatural for me.
—What do you think about fighting under K1 rules?
I like that.
—Can you give us your thoughts on Hiroya?
He was very strong when he was younger. What I remember most about him all those years ago was that I used to think “Wow that guy is great. He has amazing movement and awesome technique”. But that was a long time ago, I’ll be just fine.
—Have you envisioned how the fight will end?
It’ll end with Hiroya lying on the ground looking up at the lights.
—What kind of fight do you want to fight?
I don’t want to fight a sports fight. It’s not a fight based on points. Does it really matter who wins and loses? I know Hiroya wants to carry K1 on his shoulders, but the aim here should be to return martial arts to its rightful place as a thing people can really enjoy watching. /div>

—Do you want to carry anything on your shoulders?
Carry something on my shoulders? I guess I do, but all I am really worrying about is knocking him out.
—If you win this fight, would you like to try K1?
If the right deal comes around, I will fight any kind of fight.
—Do you have anything you’d like to say to the fans?
I’m going to bring the rampage to him!
