“I want people to see just how great MMA is”. An interview with Takeru Suzuki.

—On the eve of your fight, how do you feel?
My last fight was about a month ago and I picked up my training where I left off as soon as that fight was over. It’s been this way for about 4 months now. I usually have to get down to 55kgs to fight but this time the contracted weight is 57kgs so I know this time I am going to put in my best performance to date.
—Have you been studying Yang Ming?
I’ve watched a lot of his fights, and I have a few things planned for him. I want to knock him out, and have been practicing for that. I WILL knock him out.
—What concerns you the most about him?
He fights the opposite stance to me, and possess the same weapons as me. His kicks are good and he’s an aggressive puncher, but that actually suits me the best.
—Do you feel tired having been in constant training for 4 months?
I took a one week break after my last fight, so I was able to freshen up. I feel really good.
—What has been the reaction from people around you for this fight?
I think a lot of people are going to watch this fight. Baseball and rugby are really booming right now, but I want people to see just how great MMA is.
—And what are your thoughts on next year?
I am only thinking about this fight, giving it my very all. I’m not thinking about next year yet.
